5 Benefits of Pregnancy Yoga

5 Benefits of Pregnancy Yoga

The benefits of pregnancy yoga for huge for pregnant mums and baby. With studies now showing exercise during pregnancy is rating higher on the ‘to do list’ for expectant mums than ever before, this couldn’t be a better time to consider a yoga class if you’re fortunate to find yourself pregnant, so let’s jump in and let me share with you 5 benefits of pregnancy yoga!

If you’ve ever been ‘yoga curious’ but been put off by images of dynamic balances and postures, then yoga when pregnant is for you. Experienced yogis will find pregnancy yoga continues their practise but also benefiting the growing baby inside of you, here are my 5 reasons for the benefits of pregnancy yoga.

1. Beginning Yoga when Pregnant is Beneficial for your Body, Mind and Baby

Your growing baby provides you with an instant need and focus to “go within”. Going within is the very essence of yoga, and what myself and many yoga practitioners struggle for many years to achieve in order to centre and quieten the busy, easily distracted mind.

2. Yoga in Pregnancy Enables you to become more in Tuen with Your Body

As you and your body progress through the many stages of pregnancy you will learn how to recognise and address the constant changes and shifts in your energy levels, body shape, mobility and hormonal mood changes.

Yoga will provide you with a more level-headed way to make decisions on how far to push yourself and when to ease off. Not only on your yoga mat but as you go through 9 months of pregnancy and beyond.

3. Practising Yoga When Pregnant will Improve your Birth Experience

Studies show on average women who practise yoga in pregnancy go on to have easier, calmer births and less intervention. This is commonly because they have learnt to use their breath as a tool to reduce their stress and anxiety levels, stay calm and allow the body to do what it needs to do to give birth.

4. Pregnancy Yoga is Adapted from Traditional Yoga Practice

Pregnancy yoga is the natural way to remedy the majority of ailments symptomatic to pregnancy. Specifically designed to gently stretch the pregnant body without straining or jarring any muscles or joints.

5. Experience the Energy of a Pregnancy Yoga Class

Pregnant women are awesome powerful creatures, and I adore the prana (energy in yoga speak) that is generated and shared during a 75 minute yoga class. Having had two babies myself, I love sharing little tips with the mums-to-be who come to my classes.

Things you won’t read in a book and won’t be on your midwives list of information to impart, it’s a perfect way to meet other mums-to-be in your area who are going through the same challenges.
