Davenport House Wedding Photographer

There’s a reason couples cancel their France venue tours after visiting Davenport House.

I know, because it happened to one of mine. Kelsey and Edward had flights booked, venues lined up across the French countryside – and then they walked into Davenport House and that was that.

I’m Laura, hi!, a Shropshire wedding photographer specialising in romantic, fine-art documentary photography for couples who care about atmosphere as much as aesthetics. I’ve been photographing weddings at Davenport House since 2018, and it remains one of the venues I return to with genuine excitement every single time.

Because it photographs beautifully in any weather – and it still feels like a party.

What makes Davenport House special to photograph

The Great Hall gives every ceremony a sense of arrival without tipping into intimidating. Soft, flattering light. A sweeping staircase. The kind of room where you can feel the emotion before a word is spoken – which means I can capture it without chasing it.

The Saloon Room, with its floor-to-ceiling windows and mirrored walls catching afternoon light, is one of my favourite spots anywhere in Shropshire for couple portraits. It feels both iconic and surprisingly intimate. This is where I’ll gently steal you for a few quiet minutes – a chance to breathe, spend time together, and realise you’re actually married.

And the lawn. Wide Shropshire views, space to wander, that easy unforced atmosphere that makes guests settle in quickly. When the light turns golden in the evening, it does the heavy lifting.

There are also cows in the neighbouring field who occasionally wander over to say hello. I’ve photographed worse wedding guests!

The kind of couples Davenport House attracts…and why they tend to suit me

Davenport House couples usually care as much about how the day feels as how it looks. They’ve chosen a venue with real warmth and character, not just impressive photos. They want a photographer who’ll blend in, stay calm, and capture the day as it actually unfolds – not someone who’ll choreograph it.

That’s exactly how I work. Quietly observant, gently directive when needed, never in the way.

If you’re the kind of couple who wants beautiful, true-to-life images without spending half your day being posed – you’ll probably find we’re a good fit.

“She made us both feel relaxed and as if we’d known her forever, and she captured the love and joy of our day – and we are not ones for PDAs!”

How to build a wedding playlist your guests actually love I’ve photographed weddings since 2016. I’ve watched a lot of first dances. I’ve seen ceremony music make entire rooms cry, and drinks receptions fall flat because the music was wrong for the moment. Music shapes how your wedding day feels – not just sounds. Get […]

After nearly a decade of photographing weddings, I’ve had a lot of conversations with couples – before, during and after their wedding day. The same things come up again and again: what they’d do differently, what they wished they’d known, what genuinely didn’t matter as much as they thought it would. Here are 16 of […]

Having photographed hundreds of weddings, I can tell you this: the couples who look the most relaxed aren’t the ones with the “perfect” plan… they’re the ones who aren’t trying to do everything themselves. There are a few tiny jobs that make a massive difference to how smoothly your day runs – and they’re exactly […]
