Styled shoot for colourful small wedding ideas
This was a styled shoot created with Evermore Weddings to share ideas for couples planning a colourful, Moroccan-inspired celebration.
When Becca from Evermore Weddings got in touch about a Marrakech-inspired small wedding shoot she was planning to share lots of Moroccan wedding inspiration, I jumped at the chance of getting involved as the photographer. I loved the colourful wedding styling and vibe she described, and loved it even more on the day when it all came together perfectly!
If you’re looking to bring a bit of Moroccan beauty to your UK wedding, or you’re looking for inspiration for colourful wedding styling that’s also classy (elegant doesn’t have to mean boring!), then this one’s for you.
Moroccan wedding inspiration
“The vision for this shoot was to create the feel of a bold, colourful Marrakesh destination wedding without leaving the UK. With destination weddings being almost impossible during the last year I really wanted to do a shoot that would give couples ideas on how to create the feel of a destination wedding within the UK.” Becca explains. She’d been lucky enough to visit Marrakech in January 2020 and had fallen in love whilst there, so decided to draw on it as her inspiration.

We shot in a Shrewsbury space that fit the blue-bar, Marrakech mood perfectly; providing colourful wedding styling inspiration. In particular, she chose the outdoor space as the setting for the Marrakech wedding inspiration, an amazing secret garden oasis with gorgeous views of Shrewsbury.

Colourful wedding styling
Though the colourful wedding styling was, of course, focused on lots of bold, bright colours, blue played a special role in tying it all together. It feels like a very symbolic colour for Marrakech, thanks to the striking Majorelle blue walls of the Yves Saint Laurent mansion and garden.

With that in mind, the dark wood table was covered with a woven blue runner, and set with six plate settings for an intimate wedding setup. Blue glassware complemented the blue textured plates, whilst dusky pink taper candles worked alongside blue taper candles to add a luxurious, intimate feel. We used gold to accessorise and highlight this colourful wedding styling, including gold cutlery, gold tealight holders in the shape of exotic animals, napkin rings and, my personal favourite, name holders that were shaped like ocean items.

Another element to this colourful wedding styling was fresh fruit. Just one of the many incredible things about Marrakech is the Moroccan cuisine, and the many incredible fragrances that permeate the air. Apples, persimmons, pomegranates, oranges – you name it, these all grow in abundance in the heat of Morocco. With that in mind, Becca artfully arranged fresh fruit in bowls and loose on the table to create an indulgent, luxurious vibe.

Colourful wedding flowers
Another huge part of this colourful wedding styling was the colourful wedding flowers, courtesy of the brilliant Abi from Blooming Lupin. I’d worked with Abi before – on Becca’s wedding, funnily enough! – and she knocked it out of the park both times. She focussed on jewel-toned pinks, reds and purples to stand out from the rich blue. In Charlotte’s bouquet, her floral crown headpiece, the cascading decoration on the Hunkington House Kitchen cake, and of course atop the table – it all looked sensational.

Fun Charlie Brear wedding outfits
Becca wanted to create a bridal look that was “fun but glam.” To do this, Charlotte wore two dresses from Charlie Brear’s 2021 Desert Dreamers Collection: a long, petalled strappy dress for the day, and a fringed minidress for the nighttime. Hair and Make Up was kept natural for the daytime look, and then dialled up for a smoky eye for some nighttime glam. Zach kept classically cool as ever in a black tux.
Charlotte and Zach are actually not only childhood sweethearts but also Becca’s couple who are getting married this year, so their love for each other was a real joy to photograph all day!

Alternative, non-traditional wedding inspiration
Over and above everything else, this shoot was intended to help inspire you to have a wedding day that’s less-than-traditional, if that’s what you truly want. Weddings don’t have to have all white everything, as this colourful wedding styling shows. They can be inspired by anything and everything that matters to you as a pair (such as a place that’s special and significant to you two).

A Photographer Who’ll Fit Right In
If you’re planning a small wedding, I’d love to capture it in a way that feels true to you – relaxed, genuine, and full of the joy that makes your story unique. Whether you’re exchanging vows at a grand London landmark or celebrating quietly in a favourite neighbourhood pub, my approach stays the same: effortless, quietly observant and guided by what matters most to you.
