Hawkstone Hall Wedding Photographer

I fell in love with Hawkstone Hall before I ever photographed a wedding there.

In July 2020, my mum and I treated ourselves to afternoon tea in The Saloon for our birthdays. We ended up being offered a spontaneous private tour… and I spent the whole time quietly losing my mind over the light. Floor-to-ceiling windows in almost every room. Gardens with tucked-away corners that feel like they were designed for portraits. A chapel that makes you catch your breath a little.

I remember thinking: I need to photograph a wedding here.

I’m Laura, hi!, a Shropshire wedding photographer specialising in romantic, fine-art documentary photography for couples who want their day captured as it actually felt. I’ve now photographed weddings at Hawkstone Hall across different seasons, and it hasn’t disappointed once.

What makes Hawkstone Hall special to photograph

The light is the thing. Natural light pours into almost every room through those floor-to-ceiling windows, which means even on a grey Shropshire day there’s no shortage of beautiful spaces to work with. No harsh flash, no awkward setups – just soft, flattering, natural coverage from the moment you arrive.

The chapel is one of the most impressive ceremony spaces in the county. High ceilings, intricate detailing, an atmosphere that makes even the most registry-office-minded couples stop and reconsider. I always make sure to capture both the scale of the room and the quiet glances happening within it – because both tell the story.

The grounds are expansive but never overwhelming. There are tucked-away corners with statues, mature trees, and long stretches of golden light in the evening. It’s the kind of venue where I can take you somewhere that feels like you discovered it together, and the photos look that way too.

The kind of couples Hawkstone Hall attracts

Hawkstone Hall couples tend to want the sense of occasion without the stuffiness. They’ve chosen a venue with real grandeur – 18th-century mansion, 88 acres of Shropshire countryside – but they want the day itself to feel relaxed, warm, and completely theirs.

That’s a balance I genuinely love photographing. The big sweeping venue shots alongside the tiny human moments. The chapel and the dance floor. The formal and the completely unhinged.

What Claire & Greg said:

“It’s so true that the day goes by in such a whirlwind – your photos have reminded me of times I had completely forgotten. And I can’t even remember you capturing the moment. You are a genius!”

How to build a wedding playlist your guests actually love I’ve photographed weddings since 2016. I’ve watched a lot of first dances. I’ve seen ceremony music make entire rooms cry, and drinks receptions fall flat because the music was wrong for the moment. Music shapes how your wedding day feels – not just sounds. Get […]

After nearly a decade of photographing weddings, I’ve had a lot of conversations with couples – before, during and after their wedding day. The same things come up again and again: what they’d do differently, what they wished they’d known, what genuinely didn’t matter as much as they thought it would. Here are 16 of […]

Having photographed hundreds of weddings, I can tell you this: the couples who look the most relaxed aren’t the ones with the “perfect” plan… they’re the ones who aren’t trying to do everything themselves. There are a few tiny jobs that make a massive difference to how smoothly your day runs – and they’re exactly […]
