Intimate London wedding locations | My favourite small wedding spots as a relaxed wedding photographer

Nowadays more and more couples are opting for a smaller wedding ceremony as they realise a huge, flashy do isn’t for them (though of course, a smaller wedding can still be just as luxurious!) Whatever you want to call them – micro weddings, elopements, or just cute ‘n’ cosy – there are so many brilliant intimate London wedding locations to choose from I wanted to share some of my favourites today.

My favourite intimate London wedding locations

Old Marylebone Town Hall

First up in my list of intimate London wedding locations is Old Marylebone Town Hall. The words ‘town hall’ might conjure up a particular image in your head, but the Old Marylebone Town Hall is lightyears away from a boring council room with faded carpets and outdated decor!

The Grade II-listed Edwardian building has 7 ceremony rooms to choose from, which can accommodate anywhere between 8-100 seated guests. Each room is a brilliant blend of old and modern, with panelled walls, ornate plasterwork, and feature fireplaces juxtaposed with muted colour palettes and contemporary light fittings to create a timeless feel. Leading up to these rooms is a grand marble staircase.

The outside of Old Marylebone Town Hall is super impressive too. It was built in a Graeco-Roman style, and its tall pillars and rounded alcoves make it the perfect backdrop for portraits! There’s no wonder it’s been the spot for so many celebrity weddings, including Paul McCartney…twice!

And it’s not all just aesthetics, either – the team have always been lovely when I’ve worked at The Old Marylebone Town Hall, and you’re treated with such care and attention even if there’s multiple other weddings going on at the same time (not that you’d even know!)

To see more of the venue, you can check this wedding on my blog. The small ceremony was in the Pimlico Room, before heading out to the Langham for the party. (Old Marylebone Town Hall is the most central of these intimate London wedding locations, so it’s a great ceremony spot if you’re then planning to continue the celebrations somewhere else special.)

Hackney Town Hall

Hackney Town Hall is another of my very favourite intimate London wedding locations. Though the rooms are slightly bigger than Old Marylebone Town Hall, with higher maximum capacities, they work just as well for smaller, cosier celebrations too.

The building dates back to 1937, and is art deco grandeur to the MAX. From the wood-panelled walls of the Committee Rooms to the in-the-round setup of the Council Chamber, the rooms are steeped in history and tradition. Even the hallways are sumptuous – and don’t even get me started on those curved marble staircases. (Ok, you’ve got me started: they’re beautiful, and a lovely spot for some relaxed couples portraits. There are also the iconic steps out the front of the venue, too.)

But perhaps the jewel in the crown that is this intimate London wedding location is The North and South Atria. These two spaces are the result of an award-winning renovation, and now feature innovative glass roofs, so the space feels like it’s outdoors, even though it’s fully indoors.

My couple J and J really leant into that bringing the outdoors-in vibe for their wedding day, and it felt like we were in a meadow, in the middle of Hackney! (You can see more of their wedding day here.)

From here, it’s a hop, skip and a jump to some of London’s coolest restaurants, eateries, and venue spaces; alternatively, of course, you could have your reception here too.

Chelsea Town Hall

The next of my favourite intimate London wedding locations is Chelsea Town Hall. This venue lies not only in the heart of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, but right in the centre of the famous King’s Road. As such, it’s hosted many famous weddings, including Judy Garland, Hugh Grant, and Pierce Brosnan.

As you’ve probably come to expect with these intimate London wedding locations by now, it’s a listed building that’s just as stunning on the inside as it is on the outside. It also has a rather stunning set of steps which are an iconic place for a couple’s shot (and for confetti, of course!)

If you’re planning a really intimate wedding – as in, just the two of you – Chelsea Town Hall also offers a totally unique opportunity: thanks to its proximity to the Royal Chelsea Hospital, you could have two Chelsea Pensioners as your witnesses! In their red coats, they’re a totally iconic part of London’s history.

London’s Tower Bridge

The final instalment of this list of intimate London wedding locations isn’t a Town Hall, old or otherwise: it’s London’s Iconic Tower Bridge

There are loads of different spaces within this world-famous venue that are perfect for an avant-garde wedding celebration. Soak up the history of this impressive venue before making your own history by saying I do (because how many people can say they got married at London’s most defining landmark?!)

Want to see what it looks like? You can check out this Tower Bridge wedding here, which I had the pleasure of shooting five (!!) years ago.

An intimate wedding photographer who’ll fit right in

A little birdie tells me you’re planning a small London wedding, and you need a photographer to capture it in all of its glory (ok, you got me, the little birdie is the fact that you’re looking at this list of intimate London wedding locations.) I’m a relaxed, fun wedding photographer who specialises in capturing days authentically, as they unfold.

Whether you’re getting married at one of the above venues, or somewhere else, I’d love to hear from you – you can get in touch here. I can’t wait to hear from you!
