I posted on my Instagram stories the last time I left Chelsea Old Town Hall that it felt like my second home.
I’ve lost count of how many weddings I’ve photographed there. Enough that I’ve watched couples walk out of those doors into the buzz of the King’s Road – strangers stopping to take photos, taxis beeping, buses rumbling past – and thought: there is nowhere else in London quite like this.
I’m Laura, hi!, a wedding photographer based in Shropshire, photographing celebrations across the UK including London small weddings. Chelsea Old Town Hall is one of my most photographed venues anywhere, and it remains one of my absolute favourites.

What makes Chelsea Old Town Hall different from every other London registry office
It’s not tucked away. It’s right in the middle of everything – on the King’s Road, in the heart of one of London’s most iconic postcodes. When you walk out as newlyweds, the city celebrates with you whether it means to or not. Strangers stop and shout congratulations. Taxis beep. It’s chaotic and joyful and completely, unapologetically London.
The couples who choose Chelsea tend to fall into two camps. There are the stylish Londoners who want to say they got married in Chelsea – because Chelsea means something, and they know it. And there are the out-of-town couples who want a London wedding without a London-sized guest list, bringing their closest people down for a day that feels special and intentional rather than scaled down.
Both are absolutely my kind of wedding.

The Brydon Room
All of the weddings I’ve photographed at Chelsea Old Town Hall have been in the Brydon Room – a beautifully proportioned ceremony space with real character. It photographs consistently well across different seasons and styling choices, and the natural light is lovely when the day is on your side.
Worth knowing – there’s also a smaller ceremony room and a larger hall in a separate building, so if your guest numbers are very small or larger than typical, it’s worth asking the venue about all three options when you enquire.

After the ceremony… where Chelsea couples go
This is one of my favourite things about a Chelsea Old Town Hall wedding. The ceremony is the centrepiece, and everything afterwards is yours to design. Over the years I’ve photographed couples heading to:
- The Glasshouse at The Ivy Chelsea — a beautiful, light-filled spot for a celebratory lunch
- The Surprise — a classic Chelsea pub with real warmth
- The Phene — relaxed and characterful, perfect for a smaller group
- The Pig’s Ear — reliably brilliant for a relaxed afternoon
- The Cadogan Arms — stylish and easy, great food
One couple ditched their original big wedding plans entirely when they decided to move to New York — and chose Chelsea Old Town Hall instead. Cake and champagne at The Surprise, a sit-down dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant to finish. It was one of my favourite days. The bride wore the most incredible caped Reiss dress. Another couple arrived by big red double decker bus and carried on to a venue in North London. No two Chelsea weddings have ever looked the same.
