Couples who get married at Hackney Town Hall usually have a reason.
Not just “it’s a nice registry office.” Something more personal than that. The creative couple who’ve built their lives in East London and couldn’t imagine anywhere else. The pair who fell in love in Hackney, moved away, and came back to get married because this place still means something to them. The couple for whom the town hall is practically around the corner from their front door.
Hackney Town Hall weddings couples are choosing somewhere that’s genuinely theirs.
I’m Laura, hi!, a wedding photographer based in Shropshire, photographing celebrations across the UK including London small weddings. I’ve photographed multiple weddings at Hackney Town Hall, both in the main atriums and in the smaller ceremony room – and it’s a venue that consistently surprises people who haven’t been inside.

What makes Hackney Town Hall special to photograph
From the outside it’s a classic town hall – iconic steps, a prominent position in the heart of Hackney. But inside is where it gets genuinely extraordinary.
Glass roofs have been built over the atriums, flooding the spaces with natural light and joining the original building together in a way that feels modern without losing any of the character. The result is one of the most beautiful interior wedding spaces in London – stunning, unexpected, and completely unlike what you’d imagine from the outside.
There are two distinct options depending on your guest numbers. The main atriums are genuinely impressive – grand, light-filled, with a real sense of occasion. The smaller ceremony room is more intimate and works beautifully for micro-weddings and elopements. Both photograph brilliantly.

After the ceremony
What happens after varies enormously depending on the couple – which is exactly as it should be. For larger celebrations I’ve photographed couples staying right there in the venue, moving between the atriums as the day progresses. For smaller weddings we’ve headed out into Hackney – to relaxed local pubs where the afternoon takes on a life of its own.
That flexibility is one of the things I love about East London weddings. The ceremony is the moment, and everything afterwards feels genuinely spontaneous.
