Fun & Relaxed Shropshire Barn Wedding
Relaxed Wedding at Shropshire’s Hundred House Hotel Telford
When I first heard from Katie and Jonny, I knew immediately I wanted to photograph their barn wedding at Shropshire’s Hundred House Hotel. Katie wrote me the most wonderful email, I printed it and stuck on the wall next to my computer…really! And yesterday I had the pleasure of witnessing just how loved Katie and Jonny are, and their love for each other.
Shropshire’s The Hundred House Hotel is a venue I have driven past a zillion times on the way to see my Grandparents who lived in nearby Kidderminster and Stourport (and us in Shifnal!). Dave and I have stopped over the years for a drink, but I never knew the full extent of how lovely the venue was until Katie and Jonny told me about the gorgeous gardens and the renovated tithe barn.
The whole wedding flowed perfectly throughout the day, with the wedding party making use of the gorgeous gardens, the renovated 17th century tithe barn and the bar area. Katie and Jonny both love the outdoors and had their hearts set on the gardens being used for the group shots and the couple portraits – so thankfully the weather was on our side!
Katie and Jonny’s first date was a lindy hop dancing lesson so they did not disappoint when it came to the dancing at the end of the night! I left as the dance floor was so rammed I couldn’t get on to take any photographs!
Thanks so much for having me to share in your amazing wedding day! Here are a few questions answered by the bride and groom:
Firstly, tell me all about the proposal;
“Well, Jonny was running the Boston USA marathon in the heaviest rain we have ever known! I had managed to get to the front of the barrier along the final straight, frantically looking out for him to cheer him on. He spotted me amongst the crowds and came hobbling over absoluetly drenched! He started fiddling with his shorts and I had no idea what he was doing! He passed me a safety pin from his shorts and asked me to hold it for him. I was totally bamboozled! He followed the safety pin with a beautiful engagement ring which he withdrew from his shorts pocket and proceeded to, wobbly, get down on one knee in the pouring rain and the rest was a happy emotional blur! But luckily the many spectators around us got footage and shared it with us so we have the whole crazy moment captured on film :)”
Why did you select The Hundred House Hotel as your wedding venue?
“As the venue takes care of all of the food, drinks, decorations, and the ceremony, meal and party are all held at the same venue with accommodation offered. And two small towns nearby with plenty of accommodation available. As we are getting married quite far away from our home, having all of those details taken care of by the venue and knowing they would help us and make us feel secure that everything is under control; was essential to the selection of the venue. And we are so happy with everything and so glad we went with this barn wedding venue because they do just that. In fact, they have won awards for doing just that. We did look at another venue and they did not fill us with the same assurance and confidence when it came to planning.”
What music have you selected for your wedding?
“The songs we have chosen to feature across the day, during the reception & evening playlists we have created and the song for first dance and aisle music all have special meaning to both of us. They are some of our favourite songs for dancing around the house and enjoying life. We have also chosen to have the first dance songs and aisle music our friends and family have used at their weddings to be played during the welcome drinks and meal to add a special touch to the day for them when they hear them”
What has been your favourite part of the planning process?
“Doing it as a team & creating the music playlists.”
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding day?
Jonny – “seeing Katie walk down the aisle.” & Katie – “seeing Jonny when walking down the aisle. And Dancing! :)”
What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding day?
“Don’t sweat the small things and don’t forget the day is about love and the two of you.”
Finally, have you booked your honeymoon?
“Yes we are going to Bali for 3 weeks so we can surf, trek and enjoy the sunshine!”
Below is a preview from their fun and emotional (*ahem* Simon!) wedding…and at the end a link to a slideshow with a huge selection of images from the day.
